This breakfront was inspired by one built around 1810 (builder unknown) constructed out of solid mahogany. The sides, bottom and top are dovetailed together for superior strength. The middle supports are fastened with dovetails on the bottom through tenons with wedges at the top. The legs have matching graduated bellflowers and stringing and the spade feet are cut out from a solid leg blank. The doors are solid 1/4 sawn clear pine counter veneered with mahogany, face veneered with an exceptional crotch mahogany veneer, and boasts two book-matched left and right doors. The ovals are inside hand made black and white banding. The drawers are built out of solid mahogany counter and veneered with the same crotch wood book-matched out with maple stringing solid pine sides and bottoms. The top drawer oval is made from a piece of book-matched veneer surrounded by the same black and white banding. The top board is fastened with brass screws from the bottom. The edge has exceptional hand made stringing (see how the outside edges are all black} all the doors and drawers have top quality locks and strike plates and period correct pulls and escutcheons.
The top is a solid mahogany dove-tailed box constructed the same as the bottom. The doors have mitered corners with veneer banding inside and out with perfect ovals made up of separate bent laminations veneered and strung with maple cut and joined together, then inset to the doors to create an awe-inspiring display. The glass is also period correct.
The crown is made up of a stacked molding attached to a pine frame with a veneered face accentuated with a crossed banding, topped off with another separate frame of solid mahogany shaped boards and posts topped off with period correct brass finials. The entire piece was constructed from solid mahogany hand picked by MacDonald in Pennsylvania. The veneer was also hand picked in the Berkshires chosen just for these two pieces of art. The breakfront and the sideboard are paired with the same wood veneer and embellishments to complement each other.
