Yo Tommy what's up?
"futaie" is French for a part of a forest containing a majority of mature trees (in the sense of being exploitable.)

"High forest" is a literal translation for "haute futaie" and it is not really correct; it actually means a futaie with tress with age above 120 years old (the term varies, some people say it is above 200y-o.)

Big fan, and watch Rough Cut religiously.
I have a few quick questions.
    1. Which dust mask are you wearing on your show when you're cutting wood?
    2. While watching you cut on that Powermatic Band saw, (I have the same one), I noticed that the Carter Tension arm is in the "relaxed" position..... I know when my blade is tensioned, that arm is up. ???? Is that wide blade the reason, or, ???? I am puzzled.
    Thank you for your answers.
If you don't want to post your answers here, please drop me an email. I will appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

Loved the episode as I am currently making a dining room table of ash that a friend gave me. He cut down a tree and had it milled. However it has considerable knots and blemishes and I missed the details of Tommy's use of epoxy to seal a big knot in his table. What kind of epoxy was it. Is there a special kind for this. And when it dries, do you just sand it and stain it? I'm kinda new to furniture making.

Drive centers pressed in with a vise give square firm grip.
Claw hammers have potential to fragment as well as to deform the end of the drive center.
A brass hammer will do a better job with less risk of injury or damage.

Hi Tommy,

As a huge fan of the show, I wanted to say what a pleasure it is to watch you do your thing. I wish you could do a new show TWICE a week! I enjoy the guests you have on the show, and the one I really want to see is Norm Abram. He is such a legend in this craft, and having him on the show would be the season highlight. But if you do get him, you have to do a 2-hour show and build something really cool!

Cheers,
Pat

I would love to see a real "rough cut" rustic how to where the piece is made from a tree--hickory bark and all. Just like Old Hickory Furniture Co of Shelbyville, Indiana.
