WoodExpo 2012
Seaport World Trade Center – Boston, MA – February 23 – 26, 2012
The Goal of WoodExpo is:
- To enable talented furniture designers and manufacturers to present their skill-set.
- To recognize excellence in Furniture Design, Creativity, and Furniture Construction.
- To educate the buying public as to what high quality custom made furniture is.
Eligibility:
- All entries must have been built between April 1, 2011 and January 31, 2011.
ONE – in-process photo must accompany submittal. Accepted submissions
will be notified by February 6, 2012. - An accepted craftsman must confirm attendance at the WoodExpo by
February 7, 2012 - All projects must be produced using a majority percentage of solid wood.
A project incorporating natural veneer and inlay techniques on a wood
by-product substrate must also include solid wood in the object’s construction. - Those craftsman accepted to exhibit at the WoodExpo are required to be
present at the WoodExpo venue and to bring an educational/teaching tool
that will be used to aid in educating the attending public to techniques used
in high-end furniture fabrication.
Call for Entry Categories:
- The OPEN CATEGORY – the object must be a furniture type: chair, case good, table, furniture assessory. The majority and dominant material used should be wood but not limited to just wood. Mixing materials is very much encouraged. We are looking for the WOW factor. Number of pieces selected TBD.
- The INTERPRETIVE CATEGORY — Theme is — “The Next Step” The objective of this Interpretive Category is to enable the audience to view in one area, the “Step Stool” form and to discover the vast range of creativity displayed by our entrants.
Interpretive Category Constraints:- Build a creative form of the “step-stool” with two (minimum) or three steps.
- The stool must be built primarily from solid woods.
- The use of veneers is acceptable.
- The step-stool must break-down or ship in a 30″ cube (maximum) or smaller sized box.
How to Enter:

- NO entry fee is required to submit a project for consideration.
- Up to four (4) objects maybe submitted — 2 for each category. Two entries
into the Open Category and two entries into the Interpretive Category.- NOTE: recall the eligibility rule that WoodExpo submittals must

Last Words:
The WoodExpo will not charge a submission fee or exhibition fee, the opportunity to exhibit in the New England Home Show venue is offered at no cost to the entrant. If accepted the craftsperson is solely responsible for his/her travel, food, and lodging.
The WoodExpo is not responsible for any damage that may be incurred during transit or set-up.
Digital photo’s will not be returned and at a later date maybe used by the WoodExpo as future promotional tools.
A demonstration bench will be set-up and accepted entrants will be encouraged to either present a technical demonstration (e.g. Draw-boring mortise and tenon joints, Hammer veneering. etc.) or delivering a presentation related to other aspects of furniture design and woodworking. (e.g. Choice of materials, Historical finishes)
