| Thomas J. MacDonald

Tommy is a highly acclaimed woodworker who studied carpentry at the Blue Hills Technical High School in Canton, Massachusetts, and later excelled in the woodworking program at North Bennet Street School (NBSS) in Boston’s North End. One of Tommy’s big breaks was being ‘discovered’ by Bob Vila, host of the television program, Home Again. Vila profiled Tommy in a segment on NBSS, and invited Tommy to demonstrate shell carving on one of his shows (Modern Colonial – Click here to watch the episode), and also invited him to showcase his furniture in the house that Vila was building on Cape Cod. Since then, Tommy has been designing and constructing custom furniture pieces, and featuring his techniques on his podcast.
Most recently, Tommy has wrapped up filming the first season of WGBH’s Rough Cut Woodworking with Tommy Mac. The show will take the viewer on an in depth journey into the elements of building furniture, to include joinery tips, wood selection, history behind certain pieces, field trips to historical and educational sites, and much more.
