Does anyone know where I can get Ferrous Sulfate? I placed an order at Olde Mill but I'm not fond of them. Two weeks ago I ordered Ferrous Sulfate and so far they still "processing" my order. This is not the first time we ordered something from them - last fall and it took over a month to get the item. They carry some good products, I just don't know if the wait is worth it.

I have a project that is all set to finish and no finish.

That second link looks to fit your needs. A 9lb bucket for $13.32 plus shipping. I have a bag that I picked up from another shop a long time ago somewhere in my shop but to be honest I haven't used it in the last 5 years at least. Here's a few other links that I found while searching around:

+1 on Chemistry Store and SciLab. I've used both for small quantities of chemicals.

Still haven't heard anything from Olde Mill Cabinet shop. I did get online Tuesday night and placed an order here: http://www.earthguild.com/. The ferrous sulfate arrived in the mail today. Quick shipping.

As far as the local pharmacies, no pharmacist stocks the powder/would sell me any. 20 years ago you use to be able to get it but not any more - liability or the fear that your using it for illegal reasons. I did think of OTC route, however I wanted pure product with out the possibility of contamination.

FYI:

Update on Olde Mill. Its a mom and pop shop. The only email/communication that I received indicated that their was and illness and that's why things have been very slow. However, a member in a local woodworking guild that I was talking to stated, "I'm taking a course their and things have been very slow. To the point that she doesn't have the inventory and she, Bess, had to go back to working full time." He also went on to say, "That I would not buy anything there, as she's not turning over the old stock that she has."

Its been about 6+ weeks, and my order status, on the website, has gone from processing to shipped. The CC was charged about 5 weeks ago.

One less company that I'll be dealing with. To sad cause they did have a good selection of dyes.

What I find frustrating is trying to find a small quantity of lye locally. Used to be able to get it at most druggists and all hardware shops. Now, NOBODY carries it. They say it is becuase their insurance companies threatened to raise their rates if they continued to stock it, due to the caustic nature of it. Yet they still carry Drabo chrystals, which is every bit as caustic, because it's something like 90% lye, just adulterated enough to be useless as a wood colourant.

(sigh)
