Over Thanksgiving we placed a hot dish on a cork-bottomed trivet. The heat apparently baked some of the cork into the tabletop finish, and I'm looking for help in cleaning/removing the baked on cork. The sideboard (tabletop) is an antique - so no clue as to what the finish is..

I'm afraid there's no magic trick for this one. You could try to heat up the area to see if it loosens the cork but most likely you'll just have to remove it as carefully as possible with hand tools and perhaps a scraper at the end. Then the finish will have to be repaired.
I'd start with soaking the area in naptha to see if you get lucky and it loosens the cork but you'll probably just have to chisel it off and scrape the residue.
