Yeah, that's a concern of mine as well. I chose this project for the WoodExpo and to stretch my own work in a different direction. I don't have a place for it in my home and would have concerns about my almost 5-yr-old (b day tomorrow) girl and 6-yr old boy. I'd love to leave it in Boston if I find someone that wants it.
That gadrooning was quite a lot of work. Firstly, the fitting of those pieces took quite an effort given the way they intersect in the middle and how they finish out at the legs in crazy angles, quite unforgiving of loose fits. Then, I got to carve about a thousand interior curves. After taking care in the layout, I purposefully didn't go too far to make the carving "perfect" and they are decidedly not (as it wasn't necessary for the effect and too good wouldn't be accurate copy in my opinion).
As for the sawing and filing, I was happy to leave saw cuts if they were in the correct spots. The stretchers were pierced mostly with the router and the forstner bit, requiring filing just enough to take off the machine marks and chisel & file work in the corners. As you may have read above, I had to file the heck out of the gallery as my sawing left the pierced members too heavy. The sawing turned out to be pretty good on the brackets, and required only light touchup to make the flats flat, the curves curved, and the corners corner-y.
