Hi group.

Well, I went and did it again. As if my shop wasn't overcrowded as it is, I found another great deal on a tool!

The item in question is an older but in great condition radial arm saw. It comes minus the blade (he had a new Freud plywood blade mounted, but it only had a half hour use on it so he wanted to keep it for his table saw). I got to try it out before buying, but I know diddly zip about these animals. Seemed to run great for me before he took the blade off.

The price? Forty bucks!

Now do you see why I picked it up?

Really GREA buy Tiny. What brand is it? Now to check it for square parallel to the table etc, etc ;o)

Enjoy your new tool but take some time getting used to that hunk of steel spinning above the hand. When I picked mine up years ago I actually painted a yellow, hand goes here area to make sure I didn't creep to close to the blade while holding the piece. OH does the carriage move really easy? Mine moved like butter but I re-adjusted it when using the dado blade the first time, had a tendency to want to rocket out at ya.

Merry Christmas to you and yours Tiny

And a very safe Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Way to go Tiny. Sounds like a great deal. Radial arm saws can come in handy, but like Ritz said, be careful.

Thanks for the warnings guys. I always try to work safe. I'm missing a big toe from a lawn mower accident at age ten and my left thumb bears along scar courtesy of my first table saw, so hopefully I've learned my lessons about power tools and body parts.

So Big Guy :D Whats your first project that will incorporate the use of that radial arm?

Got a new lathe for my Birthday, solid cast iron, not a real name brand, but the head pivots 180 and it is variable speed. Should be interesting to play with. Now I can make a really big bowl LOL

"First project"? Heck, I still haven't got it out of the car!

With things as they are here, taking the time to move stuff around to try and make room for it are low on my priority list, plus I'm gonna need assistance with it as it is one heavy monster. A buddy has said he can bring his teenager over on the weekend to bring it in for me, but I have to make that place for it first.

Oh well, it gives me better traction in the snow... :D

How can you pass up a radial arm saw for $40. I recently saw one in the garage at one of my deliveries, UPS, and he had that blade horizontal or perpendicular to the table. My dad had one but he got rid of it, why I don't know. Maybe because we were growing up. :?

Have fun with it Tiny and be careful.

I've got a radial and I can give you one good piece of advice. Put a woodworker 1 blade on it. The more common woodworker 2 has too much hook which on a radial makes it self feed more. You want a zero hook or negative hook blade to make it more controllable. Good find.
