Okay guys, I've never done much in the way of inlay work. But one deal I do that I like is a simple argyle-ish pattern that you can see in the pic below. Now, I like it, and it's easy to do, but it's a little on the plain side.

What can be done with this to make it better and give it more eye appeal? TIA. :)

Please ignore the spots on my lense.

Hey Daddy-O,

Well in this particular instance it's on the side of a cabinet. But I'm not wanting to change the one in the pic, I'm wanting to embellish the design itself for future use. Does that make sense? ;)

well it just an opinion ....you could put a white stringing around the smaller dark wood and a black around the inner lighter wood to give the pieces some separation then maybe a different banding around the entire pattern....or you could put some cross banding around as well...its totally up to you....i think it looks cool as is...

Thanks Tommy, yeah, stringing or banding was kind of what I was pondering, just need to come up with a configuration and a method I'm comfortable with. These were done with a router and chisels. As you'd know I make a template and route the shape out and then clean the corners up with a small chisel. But stringing or banding would be a different procedure. Guess I'll have to do some practise attempts to see what works for me.

RIck I would try some banding to give the outline some contrast. Maybe even a black and white stringing together. Wood working is all about try new things to get more skills so try it out on a psc of trash. Maybe even a small fan or some bell flowers in each. good luck and post some pic of what ever you do

Just a little photoshop action... Maybe add a white diamond in the middle?

Hmmmm, very interesting guys, you've given me some good ideas to ponder and play with. I can't do anything with it tomorrow because I'm plumbing in a new gas heater down there. It's been danged cold these past few days. :? So I ran to the borg today and picked up a dual fuel wall hung unit that should keep things toasty in the shop. But I'll start playing with this over the Christmas holiday and see what unfolds.

Thanks guys! :P
