I'm in the process of carving out about half of my shop space to be focused on traditional furniture/hand tool methods and consolidate the stationary tools into the other half. I've looked at various books on workshops and workbenches to get ideas. I already got the norm abram influenced layout out of my system so please focus your pics on the hand tool side of your shop. thanks

Paul,
I don't have a traditional workbench yet but as T reminded me, I'm not interested in building workbenches.. I want to make furniture so this week I'm going to look at buying a hard maple butcher block top to put on top of some sort of solid base to get started.
I have all my hand tools organized in a fashion that makes them accessible and organized. The only hand tools that I use on a regular basis but are not incorporated above my bench are my files and rasps which I store in tool rolls that easily store under the bench when not in use. I'm in the process of wrapping up a cherry file organizer that will be integrated above my workbench in the next week.

I have two nice Wilton vises built into my bench that allow me to clamp longer boards or just have a spare if I have a glue up in progress. My current bench is way to short and really doesn't agree with my back. An adjustable chair has made things easier but I need something much taller considering I'm 6' 2". The 30" height does work well with hand planing.

Paul, I don't have a lot of hand tools but the ones I do have, I keep close to the bench with a spot dedicated to each tool (swedishiron's bench area is a great example). I recently moved my bench away from the wall and I love it! In my opinion, its much more usable than being up against the wall (I also end up with less clutter on it). My bench is approx 24"x 60" with a 12 inch overhang on one side. The overhang comes in handy like when you plane the sides of Project #2. I would post a pic but it would be of the bench, two chisels, a plane and a couple saws
