Just finished watching all the Bombe episodes (an achievement in itself, if I dare say so!). My first reaction seeing this piece, was how UGLY it is. It is so over the top on all fronts, too many curves, too many mouldings, those flashy brass fittings, and those mirrors... Even in the past rich people didn't automatically have good taste ( this is just my bias against rich people, I guess). But immediately I was very interested in how this thing was build, and wasn't disappointed. The first episodes where you are making the sides from a massif plank, using simple tools like wooden planes and scrapers, were great and kept me glued to the screen. I love handtools, and wasn't dissapointed in the further episodes. Slowly the whole thing started to grow on me. I love lots of details, like the shape of the lower drawers, all these dividers in the pigion holes, the beautifull grain of the lid, and, and, and. I still wouldn't dream of putting anything like this in my living room (it's way too high anyway), but as a historical relative piece of furniture it is fabulous. Great job. Maybe you should rethink these mirrors though.....

Tommy,
Great news about locating the lost finishing footage! Can't wait to see the steps used on the Bombe. Hopefully this will bring me a bit of closure w/ the video series.
